Combating Deforestation in the Dominican Republic

Together with our consortium partner Sud-Austral, FFC advises the Dominican Republic Ministry of Environment in the development of strategies to reduce deforestation, forest degradation and to increase the carbon stocks from different land use activities concerning forestry, agriculture and livestock. In this context, FFC analyzes the interplay of direct and indirect causes for forest degradation by focusing on socio-economic and biogeographical factors as well as regulatory mechanisms and institutional weak points that may have adverse effects on forest loss and landscape degradation. REDD+ Project in Punta Patiño

In cooperation with Ancon, we finalized a study to map future areas that fit respective requirements for the implementation of a REDD+ project within the punta patiño private natural reserve in Panama. We mapped and classified forest and non-forest land use areas of the reserve. Zoning of primary forests, secondary forests and non-forest areas was accomplished by using state-of-the-art drone technology and satellite image analysis. Vichada Project in Colombia

The demand for carbon credits originated from Colombia is growing: Vichada, our Gold Standard certified reforestation project, has sold all carbon credits available up to date. Until the new certification round will be completed later this year, the project will remain sold out. Vichada is located in the Eastern part of the country in the Orinoco region.
