UN ADOPTS STRATEGIC PLAN FOR FORESTS

Forests are a lifeline of our planet. To conserve and sustainably manage them, the UN has adopted a Strategic Plan for Forests 2017-2030. It’s the first-ever UN forest strategy and a far-reaching framework aimed at stopping deforestation and forest degradation. The plan consists of six Global Forest Goals to be achieved by 2030: Global Forest Goal 1 – Reverse the loss of forest cover worldwide through sustainable forest management, including protection, restoration, afforestation and reforestation, and increase efforts to prevent forest degradation and contribute to the global effort of addressing climate change. TEACHING AT THE TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY COLOGNE

We are pleased to announce that our land use and forestry specialist Andreas Schnall is teaching a seminar at the Technical University Cologne during the summer semester 2017 with the subject “Timber biomass as renewable energy source”. We are pleased to announce that German espresso bar company Primo Espresso once again committed itself to becoming carbon neutral and thereby underlining its forward thinking philosophy. The carbon footprint of all business operations and locations for the year 2015 has now been completed; and all CO2 emissions have been offset. EUROPEAN CSR DIRECTIVE COMES INTO FORCE IN GERMANY

Yesterday, on 9 March 2017, the German Parliament finally adopted the “law to strengthen non-financial reporting of companies in their annual reports.” As the Federal Council, the upper house of the parliament, will probably approve the decision by the end of March, the law will then enter into force. With this resolution, the parliament in Berlin adopted the Directive 2014/95 /EU (European CSR Directive) into national law.
