After the Paris Agreement, all countries must now decide how to implement their promised low-carbon actions, and forests and land-use have a critical role to play in these strategies. Many forward thinking governments have already taken steps to include forests and land-use activities into their carbon markets, taxes, or other instruments. In 2016, there are already 13 countries that have some form of government-facilitated program for trading forest and land-use carbon offsets. Several upcoming programs are poised to include forestry and land-use carbon in the future, including Chinas upcoming compliance market.
